Actuator withstands washdown

SMC Corporation, a US-based manufacturer of pneumatic automation products, has launched the Guided Hygienic Actuator, Series HYG.

This actuator provides the high-loading capabilities of a guided cylinder and can also be used in hygienic washdown applications or in applications where the cylinder is exposed to liquid.

Hygienic applications include food processing machinery, bottling machinery or other applications that require the cylinder surface to be wiped down.

In addition to washdown capabilities the actuator has excellent resistance to water, machining coolant and many other liquids. The HYG series is said to outperform traditional cylinders when liquids make direct contact with the sliding parts of the cylinder.

Standard features include multiple porting locations (top porting or side porting), a rail-mounted hygienic auto-switch for improved washdown capabilities, and guide rods that are completely recessed within the cylinder guide body. This cylinder is currently available in six bore sizes ranging from 20mm to 63mm with standard stroke lengths up to 200mm.
